Viewing the album list in the administration
To create, edit, delete, and reorganize your albums, go to Piwigo's administration and select Albums > Manage in the menu on the left.
The first tab lists your albums and gives you many features.
- It gives you a view of your albums in a tree; the parent albums that contain sub-albums are easily noticeable thanks to their tree-shaped icon.
- You can open or close a tree by clicking on the downwards-pointing, arrow-shaped icon.
- For each album, labels show the number of files it contains, the number of sub-albums, as well as the total number of files (including sub-albums).
- To reorganize the albums' display order, you simply need to select the album you want to move and move it through drag-and-drop.
- In the same way, by moving albums in the list, you can move an album inside another, or move a sub-album to the root.
Changing your albums' display order
As you saw in the preamble for this page, you can change the order in which the albums in the list are displayed as you wish, by moving the albums in the list through a simple drag-and-drop. This order will immediately be reflected in your gallery.
You can also apply an automatic sort order.
To do this, click on the Automatic sort order button at the top of the list. A window opens, listing all the options available to sort your albums.
You can choose:
- to only apply the desired sort order to the root albums
- to apply the sort order to the entire tree (including sub-albums)
To edit the sort order of sub-albums within a particular album, click on the "Automatic sort order" icon on the chosen album, in the list.
The sort order choice window opens: if you click on "Apply to direct sub-albums", the chosen order is only applied to the selected album.
Importing files to an album
From the list, you can import files to a given album by clicking on the "Add photos" icon on the right.
This brings you to the file import screen, set to the selected album.
Viewing the content of an album
To view the content of an album, click on the "Visit the gallery" icon. A new page will open, displaying the page of the album you chose in your gallery.
Deleting an album
To delete an album, click on the "Delete album" icon.
Edit albums permalinks
Permalinks are used to give an album a more explicit URL than the one created by default by Piwigo.
By default, when you create your first album, its URL will look like this: https://mysite.com/piwigo/index.php?/category/1
If your album is called “Animals”, creating a permalink allows you to modify its URL so that it looks like this: https://mysite.com/piwigo/index.php?/category/animals
To create and manage permanent links, go to Administration, menu Albums > Manage, tab “Permalinks”.
To add a new link, click on “Add / delete a permalink”.
Choose the album whose link you want to modify, and enter the text you want to display in the URL. Spaces and special characters (accents....) are not allowed.
Check the “Save to permalinks history” option if you want to be able to track the number of visits to your album generated by this permalink, or simply keep a record of its existence in case you ever delete the link. Click on “Submit” to save it.
Once created, you'll find your permalinks in the list.
To remove a permalink, click again on “Add / delete a permalink”. Select the link you wish to delete and click on Submit.
The deleted link now appears in the “Permalinks history” list.
